Sembilan Lampu Lalu Lintas Surabaya Mati, Kemacetan 10 Menit

On 18 Juni 2026, nine traffic lights in Surabaya went dark during the afternoon, causing traffic jams at red lights.

A resident from Ngagel, Farusma Okta Verdian, was caught in a traffic jam at the traffic light on Jalan Raya Menur heading toward RS Menur from Kalidami around 13.00 WIB. The light had been functioning at first but suddenly turned off near the intersection, creating confusion and a brief standstill.

"Macetnya sekitar 10 menit. Awalnya lampu TL terlihat nyala. Sampai mendekati perempatan tiba-tiba mati. Para pengendara sempat klakson-klakson akibat lampu TL itu mati dan menimbulkan kemacetan," kata Verdi, Kamis, 18 Juni 2026.

According to data received, nine traffic lights went dark from 14.33 WIB because of a power outage from PLN. The affected lights were:

• Gunungsari-Bumi Marinir
• Pasar Kembang-Kedung Doro
• Banyuurip-Flyover
• Menur-Kertajaya Samsat
• Sumatera pemuda-Sahid
• Sulawesi-Bagong
• Jemursari-Jemurhandayani
• Putro Agung-Kapas Krampung
• Raya Darmo-Bengawan

Dishub Surabaya’s Abi Dwi Septianto said the department did not receive any prior notice about the outage. To mitigate congestion, staff were dispatched to the scene to manage traffic and generators were installed at several points.

He added that the PLN Jatim has yet to provide an explanation for the outage that affected the traffic lights.

In short, a sudden power cut caused nine traffic lights in Surabaya to fail, leading to temporary traffic jams. The city’s traffic management responded quickly by directing traffic and supplying generators, while the power company remains silent about the cause.
