Dua Pelajar SD Tenggelam di Ranu Betok, Tiga Terungkap

On 5 Juni 2026, at 13.00 WIB, two primary school students, Aldi (12) and Yudi (12), drowned while swimming at the natural tourist area Ranu Betok in Tiris, Probolinggo. The children were from Dusun Manggisan, Desa Tiris, Kecamatan Tiris. A third student, Taufik (13), did not swim and survived. The incident happened in the afternoon, when the children were playing near the lake.

Subdistrict head Bambang Julius confirmed the incident. He said the event started when three students were near Ranu Betok, after which two swam and drowned while the third, who was fishing, survived. He added, “Korbannya ada dua orang pelajar SD. Dua orang meninggal dunia dan satu orang selamat dari maut, karena tidak ikut berenang dengan korban, dia memilih memancing,” ujar Bambang Julius saat dikonfirmasi melalui ponselnya. Julius also noted that the children were from the same village and emphasized that the incident was a tragic accident.

After receiving the report from local residents, police and community members immediately began a search and rescue operation. They located the bodies of the two children in the deeper part of the lake and evacuated them from the site. The bodies were later handed over to the families for burial. The rescue operation took several hours, with volunteers from the village assisting and helping to clear debris.

Julius also explained that Ranu Betok is a natural tourist area that has not yet been managed effectively. He warned that the water conditions there can be risky and urged visitors to be cautious. “Kami mengimbau masyarakat agar lebih berhati-hati saat berkunjung ke kawasan ranu tersebut. Jangan mandi atau berenang sembarangan karena kondisi perairan di sana cukup berisiko,” tegasnya.

Kapolsek Tiris Iptu Samsul Arifin provided an early police statement. He said that three children were present at the location, two of whom were believed to have been playing or bathing in the river before they drowned, while the third did not swim and immediately sought help after seeing his friends sink. “Informasi sementara yang kami terima, ada tiga anak berada di lokasi. Dua anak diduga bermain atau mandi di sungai kemudian tenggelam. Satu anak lainnya tidak ikut mandi dan langsung meminta bantuan warga setelah melihat kedua temannya tenggelam,” ujar Iptu Samsul Arifin.

According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing to confirm the full chronology of the incident. The preliminary findings suggest that the incident was a drowning accident with no indication of criminal activity.
