On 16 Mei 2026, an incident unfolded during President Donald Trump’s visit to China. Before the delegation boarded Air Force One, officials from the Chinese side had handed out various items. Those items were then discarded by the U.S. staff.

According to a report from The Daily Express, the American delegation’s staff collected the gifts—ID cards, disposable phones, and delegation badges—shortly before the plane’s departure. The items were thrown into a trash bin beneath the aircraft’s stairs.

Emily Goodin, a journalist for the New York Post, shared the details on X. She noted that the discarded items included identity cards, single‑use mobile phones, and badges issued to the delegation.

The event took place at the end of Trump’s trip, which also featured a meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Zhongnanhai residence. In the final encounter before the U.S. president left, the two leaders walked together through a courtyard lined with ancient trees and Chinese roses, then shared tea and lunch.

During the conversation—lasting nearly three hours—Trump told reporters, “Ini benar-benar beberapa hari yang luar biasa.” The discussion was conducted with aides and the chief interpreter present.

Behind the diplomatic veneer, the topic of Taiwan emerged as a key concern. Chinese officials said Xi warned Trump that differing views on Taiwan could trigger conflict if not managed properly. Xi stated that the Taiwan issue could push the two largest powers into bentrokan dan bahkan konflik.

Marco Rubio confirmed that America’s policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged. In an interview with NBC News, Rubio cautioned that it would be a kesalahan besar if China attempted to seize Taiwan by force, describing Xi’s remarks as part of China’s routine diplomatic practice.

The incident illustrates how symbolic exchanges can be swiftly reversed in diplomatic settings, and how sensitive subjects like Taiwan can shape the tone of high‑level meetings.
