Penyu Lekang Mati Ditemukan di Pantai Yehembang, Bali

On 29 April 2026, a dead sea turtle of the species Lekang was found on the shore of Pantai Yehembang in the Mendoyo district of Jembrana, Bali. The carcass was discovered by local residents in the morning.

Kapolsek Mendoyo, Kompol I Wayan Sartika, said the discovery occurred at about 09.30 Wita. A community report prompted police officers to head straight to Banjar Pasar, Desa Yehembang, to inspect the site.

"Setelah menerima informasi dari warga pesisir, kemudian langsung mengecek ke lokasi. Benar ditemukan seekor penyu jenis Lekang dalam kondisi sudah mati," ungkap Sartika saat dikonfirmasi detikBali, Rabu.

Field identification revealed the turtle measured roughly 98 cm in length and 60 cm in width. No visible injuries were noted, yet the animal was already deceased when found at the beach edge.

"Tidak ditemukan adanya luka-luka pada tubuh penyu tersebut, tapi kondisinya sudah mati saat ditemukan di bibir pantai," jelas Sartika.

Following the find, the police coordinated with the Balai Pengelolaan Kelautan (Balai PK). The joint assessment led to a decision that the carcass must be handled promptly according to established protocol.

"Untuk menghindari bau tidak sedap dan potensi gangguan kesehatan bagi masyarakat sekitar, petugas memutuskan untuk langsung mengubur bangkai penyu tersebut di sekitar lokasi penemuan."
